There are a number of possible reasons. If it is a CRT display (not an LCD) there could be a problem with the alignment of the electrode gun inside the monitor or the video circuitry. Most likely the monitor is no longer displaying any red or perhaps red and green colors at all. This is not usually repairable.

A second possibility is that the cable has become dislodged or damaged. Wiggle the cable and check that the connections at both ends are well secured. Trying a cable from a monitor you know to be working is a good sanity check.

A third possibility is a problem with the video card on your computer. This is least likely in my opinion but it can happen. Try your monitor and cable on another computer and see if the problem is still there. If it is fixed, the problem is your video card.

Good luck!
