If you have an optical mouse, then under some conditions of the surface it is on it can get confused and think that it is moving.

It is normal, just move the mouse slightly and it should stop.

Trackpoints can also get confused if you press on them slightly. They see this pressure as the normal situation, so when you take your finger away and stop pressing the computer now sees this as movement, and the cursor drifts across the screen unitl the trackpoint re-zeros itself.

If you are on a laptop, you may be using it on an incline and the touchpad may misinterpret that you are moving the mouse. If you are using a regular mouse, your desk may be on an incline. Try using it on a level surface.
