I work in IT and an ongoing issue I have with the laptops in our environment (I am laptop support for my company) is that the machines (all IBM systems, various models) constantly connect to both the wired and wireless connections, resulting in various network related problems (such as NOT automatically connecting network drives, slow system performance due to the machine being confused as to which connection to use, etc.). I am aware that I can shut off the wireless radio manually but is there something I can do that will permanently fix the problem?

for instance, later on if i want to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop, would i be able to like i did with my desktop computer? i'd imagine you can't because you wouldn't be able to open up the body of the laptop like you do the tower of a desktop, but i have no idea. is it possible? if so, how?

I'm a website developer. I'm intrigued by Parallels and the ability to run Windows on a Mac. That would be an expensive trip. I've heard lots of good things (here on Yahoo! Answers, and elsewhere) about Macs. I'm like a kid in a candy shop, probably gullible. Tell me the bad things about a Mac, so I can look before I leap. (Now, please, don't just be mean-spirited. Get real!)

I am looking for a laptop for entertainment and business purposes, with plenty of speed, space and RAM. I need one under $1,100 to fit my budget. I prefer a laptop with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2GB RAM, a hard drive with plenty of space---120GB or better, 15.4" Widescreen Display, built-in web cam, 5-In-1 Media Card Reader, maybe 3 hours of battery life or more, and I want to be able to easily take it anywhere, so it has to be under 7 pounds and able to go wireless. I must have a good laptop so I am totally connected with my friends, family, and clients all of the time. I want to be able to play games on it, also. If you have experience with computers or tech, please help, too! Thanx---*~ Ozzie ~*

My question is....how do I know if the one I buy will reach throughout my house? And I dont want to spend a lot of money, so will one my "linksys" for $70 be ok?

Things I would like to know: (deciding which one to buy-laptopwise)
-compare and contrasts
-which is more advanced
-easier to use
-how annoying it is(popups, werid instructions, whatever bugs you from your personal exprience)
-which is better for the long haul (for school and/or fun time)
-how "compatiable" it is

[I know many other people are thinking about this too-for graduation gifts especially, and I would appreaciate this very much. Thanks!]

I have a Dell Inspiron 630m that I have owned since new for 10 months. Three months ago the original battery (53Whr) started to die and was only holding a charge for about 15 minutes.

So I purchased a new larger 80Whr battery over ebay which was working great and holding a charge for about 4 hours. However, after 3 weeks I turned my laptop on and the battery indicator light was pulsing and it said the battery was not present.

I returned it to the store and was given a new battery - however it was the same story. Worked well for three weeks and now exactly the same problem.

I have flashed my bios to MXC051 A04, cleaned the points on both laptop and battery and have tried reseating it - but nothing has worked. Any suggestions??

Thanks for your help!!

I am a middle aged woman with MS and arthritis who uses my desktop for a lot of things...little to no "work" things...but I do write short stories, surf the internet for info, watch videos on the net, play computer games such as Yahoo games, sometimes store and edit photos, create greeting cards, do the whole email/IM thing with friends, occaisionally have to access manufacturers web sites for technical info. I'm not a "gamer" or a "photo editor" or even an "entertainment junkie". I want a reasonably priced laptop that will do a little bit of everything reasonably well. Since the mouse on most laptops is awkward for my hands wireless mouse capability would be a plus. Also I need to be able to hook up both a printer and something that will transfer the info from my old destop into the new computer and I'm a big fan of wireless internet connections. I realize I will probably have to buy more than just the notebook, but I don't even know what software to add! Help!

I will soon be a Senior in high school & this summer, I'd like to save up for a laptop. I don't know much about computers in terms of wiring & hard drives, etc., so I need some help picking the right computer for me. I know I'll be spending a lot of time on iTunes listening to music; & I will most definitely be using the Internet for school, email, entertainment, & research. I don't play many PC games on software but I'd like to leave that option open in case I ever find a great game. The last thing I'll need my laptop for other than basic school systems (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint) is Imaging and Photo Editing. I take lots of pictures & one of my most enjoyable hobbies is editing them. I think at the time I purchase a laptop I'll probably also look into professional photo editing software. I've heard really great things from relatives & friends about the Apple Mac Book computers, but I'm not sure if it's just brand loyalty talking.
Can anyone help me find the right computer?

I am a teenager entering high school. I mostly use my computer for talking to my friends, surfing the internet, listening to music, designing simple graphics on Paint Shop Pro X, and doing Powerpoint presentations and papers for school.

I want to buy a Mac, so please do not say 'buy a dell' or 'PC Rocks' or something that doesn't help me at all.
Also, I want it to be portable, with wireless capability.

For my purposes, which one will be more useful to me? A Macbook, or a Macbook Pro? Any other tips or suggestions?

Thank you for answers!
