Any laptop made by Apple will last a very, very long time and bring you lots of happiness as well. And if you happen to get that rare lemon cause someone fell asleep on the assembly line, they have a very extraordinary warranty with applecare. :)

In my opinion MacBooks are the ones that tend to last longer. Software released by Apple is usually compatible with older models and now, with the use of Intel processors, you might even be able to run Windows XP or Vista on it. I definitely suggest MacBook or MacBook Pro (depends on the budget) as a laptop.

I owned a Sony Vaio and now own a MacBook. Like the latter more.

most laptops have internal parts made by the same company's, so all will last around 4/5 yrs . however after 2 you want to upgrade anyway , cause the technology is so fare ahead by that time!
