I have a Dell Inspiron 630m that I have owned since new for 10 months. Three months ago the original battery (53Whr) started to die and was only holding a charge for about 15 minutes.

So I purchased a new larger 80Whr battery over ebay which was working great and holding a charge for about 4 hours. However, after 3 weeks I turned my laptop on and the battery indicator light was pulsing and it said the battery was not present.

I returned it to the store and was given a new battery - however it was the same story. Worked well for three weeks and now exactly the same problem.

I have flashed my bios to MXC051 A04, cleaned the points on both laptop and battery and have tried reseating it - but nothing has worked. Any suggestions??

Thanks for your help!!

I would guess that the charging circuit is malfunctioning and killing your batteries, you probably should send the whole computer in for service. I hope it is still under warranty. It seems unlikely you'd get three bad batteries, and the computer is the common element.

Sounds like something in the computer is either preventing the battery from charging properly or may be running the battery down.

Having tried a few batteries, it is rather unlikely that all of them are defective.

The system should have a one year warranty. Contact Dell to obtain assistance.
