If you want to hook up to a security protected network, you need the key. ARE YOU TYING TO CONNECT TO YOUR NEIGHBORS NETWORK? If youre trying to connect to your own, check some of the other computers in your house or ask your family members. I agree with the other guy, WEP is LOW security

The WEP is the encryption key for your wireless network. Check the other computers on the network for the key.

Yeah it sounds like your just picking up a nearby wireless signal. If you connect to the internet another way you can just disable your WiFi card by going to Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections -- right-click the Wireless Network Connection icon and select Disable.

Its possible that you may have software handling your WiFi, there'll be an icon in your task tray if thats the case. Right-click it and turn off or whatever.

well if your connecting to your own WiFi then there should have been documentation that shows your WEP key. just reset your router using the reset button on the back. Try holding the reset button and unplugging the power at almost the same time (hold the reset button and then UNPLUG the router)

That is for your wireless card. If you are in a WiFi hotspot that uses WEP encryption you will need to enter an encryption key.

BTW, never use WEP for wireless encryption. It can be cracked in literally seconds and all your wireless traffic will be naked and exposed.

See if your wireless card can do WPA or WPA2 encryption, it is extremely secure.
