1) do you think they would slow down my pc?
2) If i also connected my external harddrives would they also?

My computer was working fine one day then I turned it off the end of that day like I usually do. Then after 4 days of not using it I went to turn it on and nothing happened. I tried using my friends power supply but still no luck. I cleaned out some of the dust near the front where the button is but nothing. Also, when I plug it in, I notice my over head light dims for a second. Also, when it is plugged in, there is a green light that comes on on the motherboard. What could the problem be?

I have a friend who's computer will shut off approx. 10 seconds after the power button is pressed. If he presses the power button again, he gets no response. If he unplugs it for 5 seconds or so before pressing the power button again, it will again attempt to start and shut off again. It does not stay on long enough for the moniter to show anything. It is an E Machines computer with XP.

How long would I have from the time that my hard drive starts making clicking noises and the like to the time that it fails? This isn't happening, but I just need to know. My computer and all it's hardware is over 5 years old and something is bound to give out eventually. Would I have long enough to run SyncBack (which would copy everything except the Windows folder to my external drive)?
