My son is 12, almost 13 and is in the 8th grade. He does some gaming, nothing too complicated but I'm sure that will grow. He does use the internet and obviously uses it for school.

I want to buy a computer that may still be useable in 3 years and that will have enough speed and support to keep up with his needs.

I don't want to spend too much maybe $700 or less.

Is this possible? If so, what should I get??

I'm planning on buying an iMac and I am trying to decide if getting the 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme is worth the extra $250, instead of the Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz. Looking at the performance charts here, looks like there's several different versions of the Core 2 Extreme processor:

Anyone know which or the Core 2 Extremes Apple is using in the new iMacs?

It has taken my son 11 months to save $400. He's looking at eMachines from Best Buy. He's only 12. He doesn't need much. I'm nervous going outside of retail because my son will lose warranty options. One person I spoke to on craigslist says eMachines are garbage and the motherboards go out on them easy and that we should buy his. That person is selling his computer on Craigslist. We don't know what to do. Craigslist or Best Buy?

I am in high school right now going to Junior Year and i was waiting for a good computer. I wonder if i should wait for Leopard to come out or not? This is my first time getting a mac.

When Leopard Comes out, will it have alot of bugs?

Will it be as horrible when Windows Vista came out?

Also, if i wait alot longer after Leopard's release, usually how long does it take to fix bugs? 6 months?

Thank you in advance!

Now i dont do much gaming anymore so I wana move movies to the 250 and sell the 320 but when i take the 320 out the system will not load XP it goes past bios load and then says Windows cant not load because of a hardware configuraion.

Is it true that if you put files in your "my documents" folder before reformatting, that they will be safe and you won't lose them?

And if not, is there a way to save them without moving them to a disk? I know that is the safest way to do so, but I don't have that many disks or the patience, so I was just looking for a quick and easy answer.

They didn't have one, so I went somewhere else and got a new one. Best Buy left everything unplugged, so I had to figure out where everything went. I think I have it all plugged in right, but when I turn the computer on, it says "disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter". Why is it doing this? And what should I do? (I haven't found my disk yet anyway and will this erase everything that's on my computer?)

I have an eMachines PC which I purchased back in 2001. It has a 600 Mhz Celeron processor in it currently, and over the past few years, I've upgraded the RAM and hard drives to turn it into a fairly nice PC. It has always been very reliable, so I don't see any reason to buy a new one if I could just upgrade the processor in mine. I realize that system bus will limit how fast this PC will operate, but I have also heard that their are limitations on the maximum speed that could be installed, even if you're using the correct CPU format (slot 1, socket 370, etc.). Anybody know how to determine the fastest CPU that I could install in this PC? I know mine is a socket 370, and they make Celeron socket 370's all the way up to 1.4 Ghz, but I don't know if my system would accept a 1.4 Ghz CPU?

Thanks!

The button is stuck and when I finally manage to pull it out and press it again it doesnt work. What else can I do besides paying for some1 to fix it. It's an old computer and the only reason i want it on is to get some important stuff from the hard drive.
