Yeah bad luck not as bad as mind. My old computer last year and half and I build it by self. But when I did choice go to a computer shop in town call DIT. Try this 11 times the 10 of 11 times was all their defect parts and their fault. Replace the motherboard twice. The power supply twice. The zip drive replace. Replace the raid add on cards twice. So you got the easy. Just the first six time they made some false bull **** they cant fix it because an illegeal copy of window so I buy and wga program one. Just they this the last time I bring they went to the edge and they did a huge check on my computer and told me I am no longer shop or bring in my computer in for repair. But since they last time check it out working just great. Their number is 402-393-0828 and ask they know a person call Michael Bauermeister.

I had the hard drive in a 1 year old Dell head crash (really bad hardware failure). It was covered under warranty. From what I have seen in years of poking around various brands of computer, Dell uses the cheapest parts the can get their hands on. Reliability doesn't matter. If Supplier A's parts are less reliable than Supplier B, Dell will still buy Supplier A if they are less expensive. Also, I wouldn't go so far as to buy a Mac next time. They cost too much for what they are. I would suggest instead that you learn how to build a desktop for yourself. It's not hard to do. If you are the person building it, you control what goes into it. Do the research and find parts that are known to be reliable. In addition, most parts come with a much longer warranty than a whole out of box computer. Hard drives, for example, usually have a 3-5 year warranty through the manufacturer.

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive XP Home etc,etc.
I had a very serious crash about six months ago seemed to be a complete goner. I got onto Dell and this the cure they gave me. After trying everything else and I mean everything!!.
Warning not for the faint hearted, You will lose (EVERYTHING) your system will be brought back to it's default / factory settings you will have to re install everything all over again like you did first day make sure you have all your system disks and software for all your hardware etc.
SAVE WHAT YOU CAN.
Boot up just as it starts press and hold Ctrl + F11 for a second or two. Opt for RESTORE and just follow the prompts it will take an hour or more to do the task. Good Luck.
PS I think that that feature is only Dell Compatible.

I would suspect something else. I have had 3 Dell computers and never had a hard drive failure with any of them.

Have you checked that your electricity supply voltages powering your PC isn't lacking? Maybe you're suffering undervoltages that is causing brown ups, as these damage the harddrives. I would advise your investment in a UPS is long overdue. Uninterrupted Power Supplies regulate voltages feeding your pc. I've got two UPS as a added safeguard as you never know a surge or brown up is going to strike.

It could be a faulty power supply. I have to agree with "IKnowThisOne". I have 13 Dells and have only had one drive failure in 8 yrs.

It is odd that you lost 3 hard drives unless you are a particularly rough laptop handler.
I suspect you are purchasing inferior drives. I would get one from the maker as it may make the difference.
