Strip down the "stuff" that loads up when it boots. The more applications that run at boot up slow it all down.

Go get a program called Hijackthis, it's the tool to use to help find a virus/malware etc.. on your computer, but it will also tell you all the processes that run at boot time.

Also, your registry gets bloated over time. Search out one of the registry cleaner applications to strip all the crap out of that. During boot time windows reads the registry. Over time your registry gets messed up with pointers to nowhere etc.. Takes windows awhile to move past the bad entries in the registry.

Limiting the numer of startup programs and processes using msconfig is the easiest way. More ram and increasing virtual ram may help also.

If msconfig, etc does not speed it up you can get a faster hard drive like the 10,000rpm Raptor.

Usually my XP pc goes through 2 passes of the "load bar" on the XP start screen
