This question is like asking if water is the same as a glass.

Dell is the glass, Windows is the water.

In order to be useful, a computer needs an operating system. In order for a glass to be useful, it has to be filled with something (usually liquid).

Dell is a computer manufacturer.
Windows is an operating system by Microsoft.

Microsoft makes software that works on computers. Dell is a company that makes computers with software ON it. So if you were silly enough to buy a Dell, you'd want to get some Microsoft products installed on it.

Like, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Microsoft Works, or Microsoft Office

Are you using a computer right now? Maybe you need a tutor, or class on computer basics. Without knowledge, the thing will be useless. Without know-how, the thing will be DEAD soon.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Dell is an American computer-hardware company. It develops, manufactures, sells and supports personal computers, servers, data storage devices, network switches, PDAs, software, televisions, computer peripherals and other technology-related products. For most people it is know for the computers. (www.dell.com)
Windows is the name of a family of operating systems (95,98,2000,XP,Vista...), developed by Microsoft. (www.windows.com)
So Dell is not the same as Windows, but a Dell PC can have a Windows operating system.

You are slightly confused.

Dell is a brand of computer. It is the hardware.

Windows is software, specifically the operating system.. Windows will run on Dell computers, but so will many other operating systems, such as Linux, BEOS, DOS, ect.

The Dell computer you buy today will have Windows on it, and it is the same version of Windows that you will get on any other mass produced computer today, unless you buy a MAC..
