My computer was working fine one day then I turned it off the end of that day like I usually do. Then after 4 days of not using it I went to turn it on and nothing happened. I tried using my friends power supply but still no luck. I cleaned out some of the dust near the front where the button is but nothing. Also, when I plug it in, I notice my over head light dims for a second. Also, when it is plugged in, there is a green light that comes on on the motherboard. What could the problem be?

check your mobo:

-if it has green ooze coming out of any of the circuits you fried your board.

-take your memory out and put it back in (make sure they snap when you click them in)

-blow any dust with a sprayer especially if you dont clean yer comp;

-make sure none of the circuits in your graphixs card are not blown out

-make sure everything is connected

On Gateways and Dells the green light indicates that there is appropriate power on the motherboard (a troubleshooting aid that Tech Support always asks about). Other brands may use the same trick. So that much is good and indicates you probably have a good power supply and a machine plugged into a working electric outlet.

When you turn it on do you hear a series of beeps? Those are POST, a built in diagnostic from your BIOS. You don't need the monitor or the keyboard or the disk to be OK to hear those beeps. The link below lists those codes.

Check POST and then add details as to what is going on while "nothing happens." What do you hear, what does monitor show, does disk seem to make whirring sound, do you hear fan?

Your PC most likely went through a Meltdown, this is happened by over-Heating and Dust, ther is no way to treat this problem only by Buying another Motherboard, or you could have had a short in your PC, if the pc isnt still turning on i would take it to a local Tech shop and have it examned.

Try plugging it into a different circuit and use a (different) surge protector, or reset the surge protector you may have it plugged into.

Don't use the same circuit that runs any ceiling or area fans or fluorescent lamps.

I hope you don't have a bad electrical circuit in your house that it may be plugged into. Had any power surges or outages lately?

Check other devices on the same circuit. Check the circuit breaker.

Good luck.

try plugging in the processor or ram chips a little but dont break them. if that is not the case then either or both the processor and ram are shot.
