Ok, I use to have windows xp professional and then I switched to the home edition. Ever since I switched to home edition my speakers wont work. It seems they are working right but something in the computer is not working right.......help me please!!!!!!

I tried turning on my computer...The light goes on but all you hear is a loud fan...the screen says no signal..i unpluged it..still nothing.its a newer emachines PC..maybe less than 1 year old

what is the dvd + R DL. And can a DVD + - RW burn the same thing. I am tyring to burn something that is usually burnt on dvd= R DL but i was wondering if DVD +- RW is the same thing or can do the same thing

I have all of my start up disks that came with my computer when I bought it. I know to back up anything I want t keep on disk or CD for now. I don't think I would need to download any drivers but I'm really really not sure. Could someone tell me how to format my computer? Thank you vary much!

I have dual core AMD processors, and AMD owns ATI, I've heard, so should I buy an ATI graphics card? Kind of like how routers work better with components of the same company? I have a crap integrated Nvidia and it can't run my games too well, so I was hoping to buy a new graphics card. So should I get a Nvidia or an ATI card?

After much effort trying to set up my desktop to wireless in my new home, I thought I had the kinks out and with the next click I'd be online...no such luck.

I asked here last week how to know what was wrong with my cp- my monitor just stayed blank, and everyone was really helpful.
In case anyone else has this issue-I figured out before I tried to repair or ditch my cp that the monitor was plugged into the wrong monitor insert on the tower! There are 2.
Then the cp wouldn't recognize the Lynksys wireless G adapter cd. I finally got it to.

Now with the adapter installed, it says 'router or modem is not functioning' when I try to get online. I know they are because my roommate's laptop (I'm on now) is working.

I must have to use his WEP key at some point and/or my firewall may the issue, but nowhere did it prompt me to type any security code in.The adapter instructions say there may be 'security issues' but doesn't tell me what to do!

Help! Not at all computer savvy...be gentle.

well i will start by saying i have a low end pc. I'll tell you the specs
intel celeron D 3.0Ghz
512Mb RAM
80Gb hard drive
ASRock P4VM800 mother board
ATI Radeon RX925C graphics card
and well thats about it. The problem is that its slowing down and i know its cuz i have only 8Gb left on my hard drive and i have 30 or 40 programs installed (i need all of them to do what i do). Now the question is that if i upgrade to 1Gb memory(well actually i have two 256Mb memory cards installed at the moment so it will be like upgrading to 1256Mb RAM) will i get the same speed as i would get as when i 1st got the computer and is it true that i need to use one that is the same brand as the other in order for it to function properly(the brands im using is kingston memory) and dont say that i may have viruses on my computer cuz im using kaspersky 7 something i cant seen to remember

I have a US bought a1310n hp computer with a 300 watt power supply. I want to go in for a Nvidia Geforce 8600GT graphics card. I do have a PCI Express Slot (x16) . I wanted to know that if i install that card (it requires 300 watt power supply) will it slow down the speed of my computer (like sometime stop writing a CD ... or something like that)

A friend of mine gave me this bluetooth headset when my other stopped working. He said that he did not like the way that it fit. I have none of the documents or paperwork that came with it. I am unfamiliar with it and would appreciate any and all help in this matter.

The fastest transfer rate I got for a USB 2.0 hard drive (WD, Phantom, and many others I've tried) connected directly to my computer is ~12000 kB/s with an average of about 7000 kB/s. All these hard drives are usually advertised as having up to 50 or even 100 MB/s (not kB/s).

Over a home network with a winXP server I have average transfer rates of 1200 kB/s.

Is this normal? What transfer rates should I be having for direct USB and server data tranfers? I have brand new supped up computer with dual core processors and 4GB ram.

ok well i have a 2.5' 40gb laptop internal hardrive. i decided to get rid of my old laptop and get a new one. i have the mdg durabook 120gb 1gb ram and 1.73ghz core2 prossessor. since i kept the hard drive i bought an external hard drive enclousure from ebay for it. the enclousure and everything works great i can do everything. but i want to be able to run some programs from the other harddrive that has windows xp pro. is there a way i can get my laptop to boot from the 40gb 'external now' hard drive to access win xp. on my computer the 120gb harddrive it also running win xp pro but i use it for school. i asked a question similar to this when i didnt recieve the enclousure in the mail and people said to make sure my boot sequence in my bois supports booting from a usb device and yes it does. but i dont see how it could matter because this laptop is only 2 months old... soo apreciate the answers thanks! :)

hi guyz,

I m so confused right now. I got Acer Aspire T320 desktop PC. It has 256MB DDR PC2700 RAM shared. maybe it's shared with my Graphics OR video card. So now I was wondering that can i incrase 1GB of RAM in it. My motherboard can support 2GB of RAM easily. So, What i m looking at is that Can i add 1 GB RAM more, and will it increase my Graphic card's performance too. (MEANS WILL IT RUN AEROGLASS).

I have been using Nero 7 and all my burns kept failing around the last 3-4 songs. So I thought it was Nero so I am using Roxio 9 now and same problem. It just stopped progress at song 14/19.
I am using a Lite-On burner, it reads CDs/Dvds fine. I have 2GB 800mhz RAM OC'd , Dual Core 2.8Ghz processor. Any ideads or should I buy another DVD/CD burner. I hear lite-on's have nothing but problems...

I have an HP Mediacenter PC which was running with 1 gb of RAM, I decided to upgrade and bought two 1gb cards, when I opened the computer, I found out that I had 4 slots with 2 available, the previous memory was installed in 2 separate slots with 512mb each, so all I did was install the two 1gb cards into the availabele slots, which were one next to each 512 card (like this: 1gb 512mb 1gb 512mb. Now when I check the properties in myPC, it says that I have 1.5gb of RAM when I should have 3gb right? So I don't know if I installed the cards correctly or if that's all I get from this combination. The computer manual says it supports up to 4 gb.
