After much effort trying to set up my desktop to wireless in my new home, I thought I had the kinks out and with the next click I'd be online...no such luck.
I asked here last week how to know what was wrong with my cp- my monitor just stayed blank, and everyone was really helpful.
In case anyone else has this issue-I figured out before I tried to repair or ditch my cp that the monitor was plugged into the wrong monitor insert on the tower! There are 2.
Then the cp wouldn't recognize the Lynksys wireless G adapter cd. I finally got it to.
Now with the adapter installed, it says 'router or modem is not functioning' when I try to get online. I know they are because my roommate's laptop (I'm on now) is working.
I must have to use his WEP key at some point and/or my firewall may the issue, but nowhere did it prompt me to type any security code in.The adapter instructions say there may be 'security issues' but doesn't tell me what to do!
Help! Not at all computer savvy...be gentle.

linksys has strong tech support.
call them.

Call Linksys. If they don't help you with the first person you talk with ask for an escalation. I went thru this about a month ago and the 1st tech I talked with was no help at all. He actually told me that i would have to reinstall XP to get the adapter to work, or buy a new laptop! I finally fixed it myself.
I've had problems with the router software and the adapter software that is included with their product and so have many many other people. The actual router and adapters are great! It's just the included installation software that sucks.
