I recently worked on my neighbors old computer and noticed that he had two sticks of 32 mb ram and two 128 sticks of ram
I pulled out the two 32's and replaced them with two 256's so I should have like 750 mb of ram now but I only have like 350 or so. Any thoughts on how to get the computer to fully reconize all the ram?

Looking at purchasing a lower end laptop for just some basic use. I don't expect for the machine to run any really graphics hogging or newer games, but the specs for it list a ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory card. I just wanted to know baisically what I can expect from it. I'm not that up to speed on mobile graphics cards, only the desktop versions. Thanks,

I bought a flash drive but I am having trouble getting it to work. When I plug it into my USB port it comes up on screen giving the following three options: 1- "There is no default application specified to open the document Autorun.inf". 2- "Unable to unarchive lauchpad.zip into /volumes/U3systems temporary directory could not be created". 3- "Open dictionary unable to read the dictionary of the application or extension because it is not scriptable".
The packaging says it is compatable with the Mac that I own, the only thing I can think of is apparently the USB port on my computer is 1.1 and not 2.0. Could this be the problem? If so, how do I solve this?
I also notice a note on the package that says U3 functionality is not supported under Mac OS (any version)
What exactly does that mean?
If anyone has a moment to give me some advice on this I would sure appreciate it. I'm not exactly a computer wizard.

I am looking to get a Mac for my next computer but I really like having the ability to watch/record live tv right on my computer. I would simply like to know if it is possible to use a tv tuner card with a Mac. Also, if Macs don't support internal cards, is there some external device that would allow me to do these things?

Sometimes my mouse becomes a little laggy... like, when I try to click on something, the mouse will either not recognize my click, or the computer will react to my click as if I clicked twice, even though I physically only clicked once. When this problem has happened previously, we solved it by clearing up a little more memory or uninstalling programs, but now there is nothing else we can clear up on the computer. Can someone please help me out with this problem? Thank you (:

After upgrading my EVGA GeForce 8800GTS with the latest drivers from Nvidia I had to reboot my machine. When I did it took the BIOS about 2 mins to load and run. Once it did boot, everything came up fine. I noticed that at the very beginning of the BIOS screen, it did mention something about a memory test passed. I have 2GB of 800 mhz memory so I can imagine any memory test would take a bit of time. My concern is that I have had this machine for months and I have never had the BIOS take so long nor run any memory test. Is there a setting in the BIOS that I didn't see that controls this test? I think there is but I can't seem to find it. Also, does anyone know of a problem with the latest Nvidia drivers for the 8800 card?

Please only people with some technical knowledge answer this question. I have 20 years of computer experience and I know I must just be missing something here. Old age kicking in.

I want to free up some space on my computer and have been thinking about getting a few of those portable hard drives that I've been seeing that are going on sale next Friday. For the record I've been thinking about the 80, 120, and 250Gig hdd from Western Digital to store my music, games, videos, etc., and freeing up my main hdd

What I need to know is that if I put my entire MAME collection on one of the portable hdd, and than hook it up when I want to play one of the games, will the hard drive be running constantly while playinng the game or will my main CPU be the one doing all the work?

The reason I ask is because I don't want to burn out the portable hard drives since they don't have fans to keep them cool.

Thanks for any info or insight.

I just bought a Fujitsu external hard drive (60 GB USB 2.0 HandyDrive) and have been trying to set it up on my computer. I am running it through a powered USB hub via 2 USB connections and it appears to be getting adequate power. However, my computer says that I need to reformat the hard drive, but when I try to do so it just sits there for a long time and does not reformat. If I cancel it, I can open the drive window but cannot move files into it and it shows that it has 0 GB capacity. I have the same problems if I plug it directly into the computer. Is the hard drive broken, or how can I get it to work? Thanks.

Does anyone know what the best way to format a flash drive for readyboost in vista? I recently bought a new flash drive and would like to use my old 2GB drive only for readyboost. There are many options such as file system type (fat, fat32, ntfs) and allocation sizes (from 32 bytes to 64 kb). I would like the fastest read/write combination. I have a 2GB sandisk cruzer flash drive. Thanks
