I would suggest that you ignore the minimum specs - unless you already meet them: nVidia 6600 or Ati 9800Pro...
The recommended spec is nVidia 7800 or Ati X1800...
These models are pretty hard to find now, but the 8600GTS is on a par with the X1800XL - which was always better than the 7800GS.
The problem is that the 8600GTS is well above your price target at about £115...
backing down from this leads you to the 512Mb 8600GT or the 256Mb HD2600XT - prices and exact specifications vary, but Scan have a passive Gigabyte 8600GT for less than £70.
Dabs have a 512Mb DDR3 2600XT for just less than £80.
But I would counsel against either the 8600GT or the 2600XT, unless you're absolutely desperate for directX10 support!
Dabs have a Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 just over £80. This is the beast!
Look at Tomshardware - no COD4 comparisons anywhere yet, but the X1950Pro offers 50% better fraps than the 8600GT, the 7600GT or the HD2600XT in Prey, Warhammer and Doom3 (1280x1024, with eye candy).
Your decision - good luck!

i'm extraordinarily confident that bare standards for CoD 4 is an nVidia GeForce 6600 video card yet i'm questioning approximately upgrading my laptop to a 7600 GT that's in basic terms eighty greenbacks and could far exceed the 6 series photos card.

If you have PCI-e, then go for the ATi X1950Pro. It's cheap and fast.
Even does HDR.
