I used to build my computers. Nowadays computers are so cheap that is not worth the trouble to build your own, especially if you have to pay retail for the operating system.

Suggest a sound card as well (SB Xtreme Gamer is a good one that is cheap as well).

2G RAM (get matched pair of 1 G's if possible they work better)

Make sure the games you want to run work on Vista, might be better for now to run XP Pro until Vista releases a few service packs.

the trend now days would be to get 2 hard drives. a small one, like smallest 7200 rpm you can find, for your operating system. then a larger one for all your software and games.

also if you plan on getting vista go with the oem ultimate 64 bit edition. 200 at tiger direct. prolly the same on newegg

this isnt the upgrade version its full just without support but you will get updates and all that stuff. but i recommend sticking with xp pro untill vista is updated more... and xp pro is easier to get...free

you might look into a soundcard but your mobo should have onboard hd audio

nice video card. but you might lookinto the overclocked ones

ok, a million.) Case- pick a working laptop or pc case that fits the motherboard length your making plans to apply 2.) potential furnish- pick a potential furnish from a robust nicely reviewed business business enterprise and internet site, and seek for a on line potential furnish calculator to be sure how solid of a potential furnish you will need 3.) Motherboard- my techniques are a Nvidia chipset with an Intel processor socket, or an Intel motherboard, the two are good, and bypass with an ATX motherboard length as they have two times as many strategies than a mATX motherboard 4.) CD/DVD-ROM/±RW Drives- i might bypass with fairly plenty any business business enterprise right here, as all of them final long 5.) difficult drives- i might pick a tricky force that satisfies your want for area for storing, in the journey that your making plans on gaming along with your pc, i reccomend a Western digital Raptor X a hundred and fifty GB, as that a lot video games speedier than a classic difficult force 6.) CPU Fan- i reccomend going with a remarkable CPU Fan it somewhat is easily reviewed with intense comments, as weaker CPU followers will harm your CPU quite than help it 7.) CPU- i reccomend a Intel middle 2 Duo, regardless of the shown fact that it relies upon on your cash bypass and options, and bypass with a processor that fits your motherboard CPU socket, as a socket 775 processor won't slot in a Socket AM2+ and vice versa 8.) photos Card (aka Video Card)- i reccomend a Nvidia Geforce branded photos card, yet this additionally relies upon on your cash bypass and options, and bypass with a PCI-convey card, as thats the common now. 9.) Case followers, i might bypass with the nicest looking case followers, as case followers are low priced and durable.
