8600 GTS is better of course. 6600GT can only score 3408 marks in 3D Mark 05:

A standard 8600 GTS could do 11,600 marks, overclocked versions, a little over 12,000 marks.

Yes much better and newer.
The 8600 GTS is faster and supports pixel shader 3 and DirectX 10 which the 6600 GT Doesn't

While it's a better card, it's still very weak for more modern games like:
Crysis
Call of Duty 4
Alan Wake
Unreal 3
Oblivion
etc.
The cheapest card worth buying is the upcoming 256mb 8800GT. It should be around $200.

you place the cardboard on your pc and spot what occurs. there is not any incorrect way of being extremely effective. maximum cutting-edge computers could be high quality, older computers migth have a difficulty, fi with the powersupply or cooling.
