Hey first of all thanks for your help, I will be needing it lol :P
Here are my computer's specifications:

-Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.2ghz
-1.5gb DDR Ram
-250gb IDE Hard Drive
-128mb ATI Radion graphics card

I do a lot of video editing and special effects. I need to upgrade my computers CPU the MOST. I have pentium 4 and need core 2 duo but my motherboard won't take it.

So basically first I need to get a new motherboard which takes DDR2 Ram and Core 2 Duo. Have you got any cheap places to get them and which motherboard to get?

For video editing what ghz do you recomment in the core 2 duo, and how much DDR 2 Ram should I get?
For video editing what kind on graphics card would I need? Is a 512mb too much just for video editing because i am short on cash and i'm trying to find the cheapest way to upgrade.

So what should I upgrade? When I use adobe after effects it lags a bit and takes a while to load and stuff and the rendering takes AGES!
U Dont have to answers all q's, THANKS!!

I just bought this vid card and right now my power supply is 425W. I have 2 optical drives, 1 hard drive and a P4 processor. When I play a game like Battlefield 2, I can smell my computer overheating, I think its the power supply, but I'm not sure. Do I need more wattage on my power supply or is it something else?

I'm having problems with my new ATI Radeon 2400 HD 512 mb card playing Battlefield 1942. It says out of range after I've done all the latest patches. I've tried everything from changing screen resolution to refresh rate, updated drivers from ATI site, even did a dll file overlay from a previous version per someone's advice. Nothing. Can I switch to an Nvidia with no problem or conflicts, or should I get another ATI card that is better?

I am wanting to purchase a mid range graphic card for my acer aspire ast180 w/vista home prem.I have 2 gb samsung ddr2 6400 800 ram ,2 sticks with 2 slots empty .took out the memory it came with It was only 2 512 mb 5200.Im getting a new power supply now i need a nice video card.I am not a tech by far.I'm learning though.
I was woundering if my video card's clock core speed should match my memory speed in order to run well?My memory ram in my slots are 800 soo should I get ATI 2600xt?Its core clock speed is 800.There isnt too many reveiws on these yet so I was goin to wait a little while before I just decide to get xfx 8600 gt xxx.ITs a good card based by all the reviews.I have nothing yet except whats in my 6100 board.
I also am installing a 585w psu this week end.The reason i got one this big is for when the 8800's come down on price in a year or so i can afford to get it.Only got 1 pci e slot so i wont use any sli.Unless they come out with a two in one adapter by then.lol Heyya

All right, I've currently got 2gb ram (A-DATA 2x 1GB DIMMS 240-pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel timing: 5-5-5-18).

I upgraded to Windows Vista and I saw my computer's performance drop considerably. According to taskmanager, Vista is using 30% of my physical memory ALL the time. So... I assume that adding another 1gb of ram will boost my performance to at LEAST back to where it was BEFORE Vista.

However, I only want one 1gb and I want to go with the same brand, but the stick I want says its optimal voltage is 2.0-2.1v. My current ram 's optimal voltage is 1.8v +/- 0.1v (my mobo's lowest voltage for ram is 1.925v).

So... will I have stability issues if my new stick runs at 1.925v when the box says to run it at 2.0v?

(FYI: A-DATA ram does NOT like working outside its factory defaults, so increasing the voltage beyond 1.925v creates MAJOR system instabilities and therefore not a viable option.)
