You can try "file recovery software" (Google that), but in my opinion, you will not get much back as your formated AND repartitioned your drive without saving your data first, bad idea. Good luck, you can also try talking to an expert in your locale, most computer repair shops can help you, but getting back 100% of your files is unlikely, especially if you've used the hard drive after having formatted it!

sounds like whatever was in your systems file found your portable drive. You may be able to ghost on a seperate machine, but I woudl format and recover the OS and start over with better virus protection. Next time remove the portable drive before shut down and after startup, to prevent a scan by the OS.

Can you pinpoint the Point of Failure first? If thrashing then you need recovery service that the first two suggest, but making sure cables are not loose is free to do, at this point you can't do any recovery yourself even if you can do it sometime down the road.
