Hey first of all thanks for your help, I will be needing it lol :P
Here are my computer's specifications:

-Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.2ghz
-1.5gb DDR Ram
-250gb IDE Hard Drive
-128mb ATI Radion graphics card

I do a lot of video editing and special effects. I need to upgrade my computers CPU the MOST. I have pentium 4 and need core 2 duo but my motherboard won't take it.

So basically first I need to get a new motherboard which takes DDR2 Ram and Core 2 Duo. Have you got any cheap places to get them and which motherboard to get?

For video editing what ghz do you recomment in the core 2 duo, and how much DDR 2 Ram should I get?
For video editing what kind on graphics card would I need? Is a 512mb too much just for video editing because i am short on cash and i'm trying to find the cheapest way to upgrade.

So what should I upgrade? When I use adobe after effects it lags a bit and takes a while to load and stuff and the rendering takes AGES!
U Dont have to answers all q's, THANKS!!

As for professional video editing and stuff the graphics card that you have is suffice, if not then the target is a really costly Wild Cat card not a gaming card.

Just buy the CPU/RAM/mobo in a barebone combo meal, that makes sense.

The hard drive need not be changed. But the processor, mother board and the RAM needs to be changed unfortunately.
Use Core2Duo 2.66 GHz
And intel 965RY motherboard.
I am not clear about the graphics card.
Ask intel about that.

8600GT can be acquired for $126AUD. It runs on 256DDR3 RAM (I think, definitely not DDR2). Try IT Estate if you're in Australia. It's in NSW though but I think they ship interstate. You'll need a PCI-16x capable motherboard though.

as far as upgrading on a budget, find this board (newegg is out at the moment)

I have this one and run a E4400 C2D. I used an AGP card in it until I upgraded to the PCI-E. (it supports both) Next, I am upgrading my DDR to DDR2 (again, supports both)
