I want to add more RAM to my computer. I have a 512 MB DIMM module and there are four slots. Do I have to add 512 MB modules (so they match) or can I add a 1GB module with my 512 MB module. Or since it's removeable, can I remove the 512 MB module and replace it with a 1GB module, our would I lose all the programs my computer is running. Maximum memory is 4096 MB.

I recently had clearwire as a service provider and had a router connected to the EtherNet port. Having had problems with ClearWire, I switched to Quest. Well when the guy hooked up quest, he took out the router and connected the quest hook ups to the EtherNet port. I have no Idea where to put the router cable now, as there is only one Ethernet port. Does anyone know what to do? Or do I need to buy a spliter?

A couple of weeks ago there was a power surge while I was re-installing vista and I didn't do the smart thing and un-plug my pc.After one surge I turned the pc back on and resumed re-installing the os,then 10 minutes later there was another surge and this time when I tried to turn on the pc,nothing happened.Dead MB...so I was wondering if any or all components attached to the MB are also fried or if they can be used in my new system I am building.Thanks..and I have learned my lesson about power surges...

Hello everyone and thanks for checking out my question. I have had a few different tubes of thermal compound sitting on my shelf for about 4 or 5 years now since I last used it. Soon it's going to be time for a new build so I was wondering if I should use this old compound or buy a new tube. And do you think it is as effective as a new tube would be? I'd hate to buy a whole new tube of stuff for just one cpu but I'd hate to burn up a cpu even more! Thanks in advance for any info!

I was thinkink of adding some more video power to my computer so i was thinking of buying a VisionTek RADEON X1550 256MB (Pci ). but when i went on the dell web site it said i have a Bus Type of 2.3:
Expansion Bus
Bus type
PCI 2.3

PCI Express x1

Bus speed
PCI: 33 MHz

PCI Express: 500 MB/s bidirectional speed

PCI
connectors:
two
connector size:
120 pins
connector data width(maximum):
32 bits

PCI Express
connector:
one x1
connector size:
36 pins
connector data width (maximum):
1 PCI Express lane

Copied directly from "http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3100/en/sm/specs0.htm#wp1052310"

and when i went to bestbuy.com... in the states i saw on the specifications part of the summary it said : "System Requirements:... 3.3V PCI bus; 250-watt power supply (i can buy the power supply)

so i was wondering if it would work. i am operating a Dell 3100 system, noting modified yet

Also could i add 1 Gb of ram with a 550 watt supply? TY
