every time i plug an iPod in, it get fried and i have to exchange it at the store. I dont want to risk putting anything else in there,
what could be the problem?

If that problem is happening on the USB ports on the front panel, the USB wires are improperly connected to the motherboard. Use the back panel ports instead or have somebody knowledgeable fix the front panel connectors on the motherboard.

You know the problem, it's a bad USB port.
If it's a new computer, or the ports are on the motherboard and not in an add on card, I would return or exchange the whole thing, but if not and everything else works fine then I'd just replace the USB card.
