Sorry to say but there is no IDE video card... Video cards are either PCI, AGP, or PCI Express!

The difference you're probably reffering to is that you older motherboard has an AGP 1x/2x/4x where your new video card uses an 8x slot.

The DDR2 video card he's (or she) is referring to is the memory on the video card itself!! The old video card used DDR, and the new one uses DDR2 (aka GDDR1, 2, 3, 4)!

You're going to want to either return the video card for one that's compatible with whatever AGP slot you have, or get a new motherboard with an AGP 8x slot which can take any of the downclocked AGP cards as well...

BTW, if you're looking at a new AGP card I'd suggest either a 6800GS or 7900GS... The 8 series cards are DX10 cards and weren't made in an AGP form factor - not in the US anyway! The 6800GS is a great card for the money, and you can even use a program called riva tuner to basically make it a 6800GT :))

It shouldn't be different! AGP slots are only for Graphics Cards and serve no other purpose. However, there are two types of Graphics Card. First there are the AGP Graphics Cards and then there are the IDE Graphic Cards. Most Cards are AGP but you can still get the ocassional IDE Card, which slots into a spare IDE Socket. The advantage that an IDE has is that should you not have a spare socket, you can always remove the unused V60 modem etc. to give you a free slot. The DDR and DDR2 that you refer to is only a reference to the type of RAM that the Motherboard supports. A DDR motherboard will only take DDR RAM and a DDR 2 is usually backward compatable thus it can take both DDR and DDR2 RAM. Double check the AGP slot and make sure there is no blockage, also check the Graphics card for damaged pins etc. When you insert the card, you will notice a notch between the two sets of pins, make sure the notch is aligned with the notch on the AGP Slot. I have a feeling that you have been trying to insert the card "back to front" thus misaligning the notches.

The ASUS K8N mobo has an 8x/4x AGP slot so your card should fit if it's an AGP card. Are you sure you don't have a PCI-E card? It won't fit in an AGP slot and your mobo doesn't have PCI-E slots, just the standard PCI.

IIRC, the 8600 series (maybe 8800) is the fastest AGP card available, if you can still find one. AGP cards are getting hard to find, at least around here.
