I just bought a motherboard that supports DDR/DDR2 RAM but i dont have any of that type at the moment. I was wondering if a motherboard like that is backward compatible with older SD RAM (PC100). The manual doesnt mention anything about it.

I recently purchased an external DVD drive. When I first connected via USB cord to my laptop it functioned correctly and displayed an icon for the drive in "my computer". Now, however, my computer is not displaying an icon for the drive and when I plug it in it is telling me that I have connected a "USB 2.0 mass storage device".

I have already installed all of the necessary drivers. Is there a reason why my DVD drive is not being detected and is there a way I can fix this.

I have just purchased a Maxtor external hard drive. In the set up instructions it say to format the drive by launching the Apple Disk Utility. This utility is not on the drive or on a cd. I can save files to the drive ok. Do I really need to format it ??

I'm looking to get myself an nVidia 7900GS, and I'd like to know if an equivalent of ATI will be more or less expensive. Also, would like to know what are the equivalent chipsets ATI has compared to nVidia's 7900GS.
C2D e6400
1gb Kingston RAM 667
currently P5NSLI, will likely upgrade to something with P965, like Asus P5B or P5W
WinXPPro
Will use for general stuff, plus some minor gaming.

I have a 3-year old Dell Dimension 2400. An IP tech said an external hard drive would be easiet; just plug in a USB cable. My nephew who has his own IP Tech company said I should install another internal hard drive. The external HD does sound easier. I have one USB connection on the front that I've plugged my camera into. I have two more USB connections on the back.

Can anyone explain if these connections will accept an external hard drive? Would I have to install something else internally anyway? Although I need to open up my computer to blow out the dust bunnies, it overwhelms me to think about doing any "surgery."
