I own a business and use Quickbooks, but need to transport that information to other computers. Is it possible to have it installed onto the external hard drive instead of my computer's hard drive? Or can games be installed on there? Are they basically just useful for storing data and pictures? Kind of like a flash drive on steroids? Just wondering exactly what the external drives are capable of.

Based on helpful answer to previous question, I noticed that when I check my task manager there are about 50 or so programs running. Some say "SYSTEM", some are things like "itunes". This is when there are no windows open. I think is using up all my ram. It seems These things are running automatically everytime I turn my pc on.

I think I'm maxing out the ram memory on my pc causing video games and video to run slow. It has 512 mb. Can anyone tell me a good way to free up ram. Note: Games and video used to run fine. This is a recent problem.

Hi. I have a Dell PC laptop with pentium 4 window xp sp1,2. Recently when I try to play a video (from my camera, or youtube) it gets choppy. The audio stays normal, but the video slows way down. I've also had problems playing video games. The graphics slow way down to a stop-time kind of performance. I have a ndivia gforce graphics card. I tried updating the driver for that but it didn't do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

i wanted to add a port for digital video editing, but i have no pci slots left that i want to take out if i dont have to.

Is a usb to firewire cable even worth it or is it too slow for good video capture?

Also I have a section on my motherboard next to the usbs that says 1394 on the board, it has no pins sticking out an is just a few flat solder points. The motherboard manual says "1394 optional"
im not quit sure, but I believe id have to solder some crap (the header) on the board to get that to work, which is beyond my electronics ability.

any thoughts would be great.

Can someone help me solve this wierd problem? I have an external HP DVD writer. I can read and write data CD's and audio CD's just fine. I can also burn DVD's (data or movie) just fine. I can read DVD/R's and DVD/RW's just fine....The problem is, when I insert a commerical DVD (movie only), it doesn't recognize the DVD at all. It doesn't show up in My Computer and it doesn't play in Power DVD or Windows Media player. I can play movies on DVD/R's just fine, just not commercial ones. Anyone know how to fix this?

my motherboard isn't PCIe compatible. Should I buy a new motherboard, or scrap the whole idea. I wanted to upgrade so I can play new games on my PC like Battlefield 2142, but to do so I need a new graphics card, and a Hi Def monitor to play on. That's another couple hundred bucks there. SHould I invest in buying an entire;ly new PC, or go for the monitor and new motherboard?
