like a box with that plugs into your computer and to the wall, and has a couple of buttons and some lights on it.

Uh - pretty much a case like a box(ish) shape - with connectors in the back, and usually a power and activity light on the front...
Size is either tiny (2.5" drives) or kind of large (3.5" drives).
How they actually look is up to the manufacturer and year - they can be different shapes (but almost invariably rectangular) and colors - case can be plastic or aluminum...
