I have an old Dell xps R400, running on a P2, ugh! I want to upgrade, can I just put a new motherboard in this sucker and go from there or is there anything specifc that I must do?

I have just obtained a Radeon X300 SE graphics card but when I tried to place it in my PC my socket seems to be facing the wrong direction. The bottom of the graphics card has the 'plug' which is in 2 sections, 1 small and 1 large but the socket in my PC has the small socket on the wrong end?

its not working for me. anything i plug into it, it wont work. like an ipod or mouse. but i have 2 places for them, so i just put it in the other one, but like if i wanted to plug in my ipod and mouse at the same time i cant. does anyone know how i can fix this??

I tried nvidia.com but none of teh gracpich cards drivesr seem to work because "they are not compatible with teh current hardware"

i want to add more RAM in the two available slots in my pc. its ddr2 with support for pc2 5300 and 4200 speeds. currently the first pairing is 2 256 mb and i wanted to add a GB pairing (2 512 mb), giving a total of 1.5gig. can i do this or does the 2nd pairing have to be the same capacity as the first???

Do I lose memory and disk space? It says that Vista prefers 1GB of memory vs 512MB. If I install Vista will it slow down my lap top?

Let me know thought about selling this on ebay. I wanted to upgrade it to Vista but I couldn't because there was not enough RAM and I was just wondering if I could get enough money out of this. I really do not want to go out and spend the money on the RAM because RAM is very expensive. I would have to spend somewhere around $60.00. I am just hoping that I can get a good price off of this because I have spent alot of money on this computer and I am hoping that it will sell well.

I'm using XP on a desktop pc, connecting to internet via a Belkin F507230-4 router & Belkin F5D7050 wireless G USB adapter and I'm only able to achieve 11mbps
I have used this same setup with Windows me on this machine and had no problems.
I'm also using XP on my laptop and have no difficulty achieving 54mbps via the same router.

Have run all types of cleanwear programs over and over again, all the spy, anti spam, anti virus , utilities tools,defragmentation, 60% free disk space, Pentium 4, 2.5 GhZ, ram 248, Windows xp. Have tried everything possible plus everything everyone else has tried, no joy. I don`t seem to accept that a computer can decrease so rapidly just after putting it through the internet a few times with so much space available. Does this really justify buying an upgrade?
