I have just obtained a Radeon X300 SE graphics card but when I tried to place it in my PC my socket seems to be facing the wrong direction. The bottom of the graphics card has the 'plug' which is in 2 sections, 1 small and 1 large but the socket in my PC has the small socket on the wrong end?

The Radeon X300 SE is a PCI Express video card and will require that your motherboard supports PCIe (PCI Express) slots (see image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PCIExpress.jpg)

this is because your card is a PCI video card. it fits in the slots with your Ethernet card or the white sockets. your agp socket is smaller or brown and is farther away from the back of the mother board. if you has a open pci slot, then put it in it. this will work as good as the agp slot.. any time you put a add-in card in your system, line the card pug up with the slot and firmly push it in. if you cards have 3 sections to it, this is always the video card then it is agp slot, if it has 2 sections or a slot separating the plug side of the board, then it is a PCI card. also, alot of video cards will have a type of hook on the end of it. this is because some boards use this to lock the card into place. most newer boards will have a very short slot by itself, this is the express slot. check your board for these slots to see what option you actually have..hope this explain things better for you...

The Radeon X300 se is a PCI-Express (PCI-E) graphics card, by the sounds of your description the slot you have on your motherboard is AGP. unfortunatly there is no way to get this card to fit without upgrading your motherboard.

There are 3 different sockets for video.
PCI
AGP
PCIe
If th card is not the same as the socket it will not fit.

That card is PCI Express, which requires a special slot on the MB.
