I'm looking to get myself an nVidia 7900GS, and I'd like to know if an equivalent of ATI will be more or less expensive. Also, would like to know what are the equivalent chipsets ATI has compared to nVidia's 7900GS.

Talking about PCI-E vcards.

Another thing to add: my computer works 24/7, so I'd rather not overclock too much to keep temp down. Even more, I'd rather to keep it at stock speed, unless it's already factory oc'd.

Actually, the Nvidia 7900GS is something of an odd duck- its a GS series, which for Nvidia means it's a scaled-down, slightly slower version of a card.

The 7900GS is around $200 while the 7900GT (better) is around $250, and the GTX (better still) is even higher.

ATI's competing card is the X1900 (now 1950) series which is arguably a little better. I personally prefer Nvidia's drivers, but performance-wise the X1900 has a slight edge over the 7900 (which I own).

If you're looking at the 7900GS, ATI doesn't really have anything exactly at that price point. If you're spending a little more, then an X1950 Pro is actually the most bang for your buck.

Keep in mind that ATI and Nvidia use their letter designations in opposite ways. For ATI cards the GT usually means a cheaper version(The X1950 GT isn't as good as the X1950 Pro). On Nvidia cards, GT is the better version and GS means a stripped-down one. In both cases the X a good thing. ATI's XTX cards and Nvidia's GTX cards are higher-performance models.

Both are excellent cards, so go with whichever you can get the best deal on. Note that at gpureview, you can compare benchmarks of any two cards, quite useful :)

Well I am basing my price figures on newegg, the 7900GS ranges from about $175 to $220. The Radeon X1950Pro is in the same range, and is slightly better at stock speeds. But this card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150209 is a 7900GS that has been factor overclocked, and is significantly faster than a regular 7900GS. The stock core clock is 450Mhz, but this one is 600Mhz, and the stock RAM is 1320Mhz but this one is 1600Mhz. Because of the overclock, this card is the best option.

Games for Windows Magazine formerly Computer Gaming World recently reviewed the NVidia 7900's and found them to be the fastest cards out there even vs previous Nvidia cards in the SLi configuration and ATI cards as well

The only thing Ati can come up with, comparing to Nvidia's 7900 GPU is X1900 GPU series.. They have similar performance, but when it comes to updated drivers, various software for your card.. nVidia is the best!
