I have a laptop and the cd/dvd drive has stopped working. I thought it was broken and bought an external usb cd/dvd drive. That one does'nt work either and now realise that it is not the internal one that is broken it does not work with external one either. What could be the problem? I have tried cleaning the heads which has not helped either. Have I done something wrong when trying to play a cd, is there something internal that needs to be changed, have I changed a setting without realising so? Any help would be appreciated. Any other usb devices work, so I know its not that connection that is broken either. Thanks. Kathleen

Hey basically I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ AM2 processor intsalled on my computer and I am planning on upgrading. The processor I am interested in purchasing is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz. Now I dont know much about how a motherboard works but Im currently thinking this will work because both are AM2 processors but Im not entirely sure because one is an X2 and I dont now if anything else makes a difference? So I though I would ask before wasting good money on the processor for it to not fit. If you need any more info todetermine if it will work just let me know and I will provide it I just want to sort this asap. Thanks

When I turn on my computer I get a message across the monitor say that the computer is not communicating with the monitor. I can hear the computer booting up, the hard drive spinning and all of that. The busy light on the computer is also on and working.
Any thoughts on what is wrong?

I have a newer printer that's only got a usb connector. My slightly older wireless router has a print server and a parallel port. Ideally I'd like to have the printer available to any computer connecting to the network without having to use print sharing via a one computer that is always on.

I don't think this is possible though since I can't find a connector that goes from a male usb to a parallel port. They seem to go the other way around.

I have a Dimension 3000 3ghz, that is abit old and has started to fail on me. Before i completely dies, i want to upgrade to something similar but am having a hard time finding something with 3ghz +. All i see are machines with 2.8 that say intel core due processor...what is that? does that mean that the chip is two chips in one but each is 2.8 making it 5.6??
I see a great deal on a machine with 1.86 that i would like to purchase if the actual speed is 3.72

after taking pictures, i have always uploaded them on the computer by taking the SD memory card and placing it what i learned is the F: drive, and they upload just fine. lately when i put the memory card in the drive nothing happens, when i go into my computer and click on the "SD/MMC (F:)" it says to insert F: disk.

it never did that before! haha also when i click the little green arrow that appears in the tool bar it says to safely remove hardware.

im not sure what to do because i dont have my camera cord anymore and have no way of uploading my pictures now hahah

thankss

I believe my video card is now shot (died all of a sudden). I have a ATI AIW 7500 AGP video card in my PC (no on board or other video cards in the computer). The monitor status light goes to green, knowing that something is connected but no image appears. I have tried the following:

1) Hooked up my laptop to the monitor. Monitor works fine.
2) Tried resetting the monitor (Acer LCD). Same symptoms.
3) Tried entering the BIOS, but no display comes up. (No RAM check, IDE list, but I can tell from experience that the system is in the BIOS menu)
4) Tried unplugging the monitor cables and re-tightening them
5) Tried removing the video card and reseating.
6) Tried entering safe mode but I couldn't tell if I blindly selected the correct option.

The computer itself is fairly old. The video card has a DVI out which I need to use the RGA adapter that came with the card on, which imo has always put a lot of weight on the end of the video card...maybe the cause? Any help is great

Basically I want to use a new 160GB Hard Drive instead of my 80GB one which I have now.

I was wondering whether is is possible to transfer all system operations on to the new Hard Drive.

So basically I want to start up my computer and it be like I start it up usually, but I'm using the 160GB.

If it is possible can anyone tell me how to do it?

Thanks

I heard that CRT monitors paired in a dual monitor array can flicker due to alternating frequencies in the two monitors, and it's better to pair LCD-LCD

Also, that the frequency of the display on a CRT is different from that of an LCD making it so pairing a LCD with a CRT can cause eye strain.

Is there any information about this, either confirming or denying?

Any information will be helpful, and if you can provide links to inforamtion on the web from reputable sources, that would be greatly appreciated.
