Hardware - October 2006

Basically I am creating my own DVD's and the picture or sound quality isn’t perfect. (So is not like real DVD). Currently I am using Bulk Paq blank DVDs and it does the job but the quality isn’t perfect. So I was wondering if I went out and bought some good expensive blank SONY DVDs will it improve the quality of the picture and sound a lot or a bit or not at all. In the end what I am trying to do is create DVDs for friends and family. Appreciate the help.

I have many photos that I need to scan into a jpeg format for a video. I'm looking for a scanner that would automatically scan a stack of photos. I have searched and did not find anything. Any help would greatly appreicated.

Im looking to purchase the x800 or x850 (I have an AGP card mind you)

THe problem is im not sure which is faster...the PRO, the GTO, or the XT, or the SE, or the XL...there are so many extensions

I was install a system with Intel Pentium d dual core processor 3.4 GHz and Intel mother board d975xbx and 2 gigabyte ATI chipset x1600 vga (for ATI cross fire technology). After the installation I had download the vga bios from gigabyte web page and upgrade my system bios for vga, now the system is not working (couldn’t get display). How can solve my problem?

I have a HP running Windows XP. I removed a DVD burning program(not the system program, a not so legal one) and now I can't burn CD's or put my pictures on DVD!! I checked my DVD and CD and the computer tells me they are both working correctly. I don't want to lose all the pictures I have saved because I don't have a lot of them saved anywhere else!

From what i heard my computer is decent , And i was going to upgrade my card , to and nvidia 7600gs , i believe it was.. Is that good?

From what I Heard Nvidia is much better than ATI.

The most im willing to spend would be about 140$

Current games I Play are about PlanetSide.

And i might try out Star Wars Galaxies , And warrock


Will I Be able to play those games on MAX settings with no lag or barely any at all with a graphics card in the 100-140$ price range?

I currently have about 896MB of ram on my computer , And i was wondering if I Should get more , if so how much more an how much would it cost?

And by getting more RAM , would my computer performance speed up?

In BIOS, i see that its detected in my motherboard. i have 40gig seagate which is my primary and the maxtor as slave.

WHen i opened windows, a found new hardware pops out and i saw that it was succesfully installed.

when i open my my computer, i saw only 2 drives- my C: and the D: having the D: as the partition of my 40Gig seagate. i saw nothing else.

i went to the device manager/disk drives and i saw 2 drives, the seagate and the maxtor and in the maxtor properties, i saw that its running properly and yet, i cant find it in the my computer.

what to do?

i replaced power supply. i heard emachines t2542 is common for the mobo to go out. i wanna test out the mobo and cpu to see which it is. since it isnt the power supply or ram. there are no burn marks on either. is it very rare for them to go out with no burn marks? if it shorts then i thought it would atleast have some mark. i took out the cpu and it looks mint! where can i buy a new one 2.5 ghz or above cheap? I had a friend build me a computer, which works great, except for the fact that it either freezes up for I get the blue screen "virtual memory dump" every 5 minutes or so. I've put in a new hard drive and reinstalled Windows, with no luck. I've noticed that it happens mostly when I'm online or using Windows Media Player. I'm guessing it's a hardware issue. Any ideas??

ive been a loyal ATI fan for quite some time, but now im starting to regret getting an ATI card, as nVidia has everything i need. what ATI and nVidia card should i get? it needs to be AGP 8X and under $300, also, i play alot of games on this system, Battlefield 2, 2142 and quake 4, so it needs to be able to take alot, also, i have 1.5gigs of ram, and an AMD athlon +3000 2.1 GHz, my current video card is an ATI Radeon X800 Sapphire GTO eddition with 256 memory, i usually overclock it when i play my intense games with the provided program called TRIXX, if you know of any way to make my games run faster, let me know, i alredy kill all the usless tasks when i play, and i have +700 gigs of harddrive memory, im running windows XP. i used to build these things, the one im on being one of the computers i built, so i wont have to pay anyone to install it for me.

Pentium 4 d945 dual core processor
ECS P4M800PRO-M motherboard
1gb DDR 400mhz sdram
Suza advance vision case and 550wat PSU
All for £225 , is this a good settup or have I been scammed ?
What is the D945 like,,, ? anygood ?
