i can't start my laptop up in safemode becuase its just a black screen saying disc read error so please someone help i have restarted it nothing. i have took the hard drive out i can't see nothing wrong with it not that i would anyway.

If you have another computer you can hook it up to, do that and try running chkdsk /r. If you cannot, you might be out of luck (you might be anyway)...your hard drive sounds like it just died. I hope you backed up, I know I didn't.

Did you close your laptop without proper shutdown? it might be due to your disk cluster error.
are you using winXP? Press "del" when you boot up and see if you can access the bios. Change the startup device to the CD-rom. Insert your winXP installer cd and boot up from the cd. Use the repair mode to create a new boot sector. You should be able to boot into your hard disk then.

It sounds like the boot sector may be corrupt. This also means that the hard drive may have failed. You need to boot from a cdrom and check the disk from maintanence mode.

Both answers are correct solutions ? may be bad hard disc , may be a bad bios?
Why are you trying to start in safe mode ?

it could also be a bad hard drive, and it will need to be replaced
