How do I check the thermopaste on my Dell Desktop?

Specifically, does anyone know how to get the green guard off the processor? I dont want to force it too much and break anything.

First off, if you remove the CPU fan, you will have to clean the old thermal grease off of the CPU and the heatsink on the fan. I would then use a BB sized drop "Arctic Silver" thermal grease on the CPU before reinstalling the CPU fan.
