Does anyone know what could be wrong? My laptop is fairly new and the disk drive was working a few days ago. I have windows vista. Today I went to put in my Sims game cd and it won't read it. Then I put in one of my dvd's and it won't read that either...the drive runs for like a second and then it stops running. I'm getting pretty frustrated! Help please, thanks!

I want to own my own domain completely. My question is how can these sites such as godaddy.com and others sell domains? Do they own their domain with no monthly payments? Who does this where you have to pay monthly fees for domains? Shouldn't you be able to buy it with a one time fee.

Hello. I am looking for a laptop under $700 (actually, $600 hopefully), and it's slim pickin's out there. I would use it to do computer journaling (as opposed to writing), tinker and view digital images, listen to music, etc. I'd like it to have a full gig of ddr2 memory, a hard drive over 80gb, burn dvd's and cd's, Vista home basic is sufficient, etc I looked at a Dell Inspiron, had it configured to cost $689... but Dell KILLS you with overpriced extended warranty. I need input soon please. Thank you.

Would disabling Java in one's browser ensure some degree of added security? Could one enable Java in say IE7, while having Java disabled in Firefox? Is there a chance of 'cross-contamination' in such a configuration?

I've tried Norton AntiVirus and Adaware Spyware remover. I use Firefox and Internet explorer as my web browsers and they are the only thing on the computer effected by this. I don't really know how to discribe the problem except that it suddenly stops responding and sends me an "send" "don't send error report" message. If I do run an Adawar or Norton scan it does solve the problem but only for a day or so. HELP!!! I've asked every computer savy person I know and no one seems to have an explaination.

for some reason, when I hit the left key, the flashy thingy goes right, and when I hit the right key, it goes left. Why? How can i fix this? It only happens in Word. I have the 2002 version I think.

In attempting to secure the latest security patch Microsoft wouldnt allow the download unless I also downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer. After doing this as well as the latest security patch I now get the following error message upon reboot as well as during my internet session:

Cannot find 'file:///C:/Windows/warhp.html'. Make sure the path or internet address is correct

What does this mean and how do I stop the madness? I was previously had Internet Explorer 5 but never used it. I instead have been using Firefox to access the internet.

I have Comcast "high speed internet" and the connection is extremely poor. I don't care if it's all dependent on the number of people using the internet, they still shouldn't make those commericials that diss DSL, since DSL will rpe Comcast in internet speed any day. Anyways the problem is, the internet is pretty good actually at some times, but almost very frequently, the internet just shuts off and they secretly switch you to using a free internet service, which is slower. So I'm saying they're frauds. What do you think of it?

I recently opened an account with 3 for their mobile broadband..but I cant figure out how to keep track of how much i have downloaded. Im using it with a mac, and when i open the connection it doesnt tell me how much i have downloaded... The contract is 19.99euro a month but if you go over the download amount it gets really expensive.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out how much i have downloaded so I can keep track?!

Hey, I am planning on upgrading my RAM for my computer and I don't know nothing about it, I need help. I bought this DDR2 PC-4200 1 GB ram for my Dell computer which is really crappy and I tried to put in the RAM but it did not fix the notches on the memory card was in the wrong place so I had to return it. for my computer I only need one notch on the memory card if that is important..and I think the card taht was already in it was a PC-3200

I need help

1.knowing what kind of card I need to buy so it will fit.
2.how do I check how much my motherboard can support.
3. and anything else I might need to know before i go out and buy the card to put in my PC.

Will a widescreen monitor (max. res = 1440x900) work with a PC w/ Windows XP only using a 'RGB' input?? I know if a machine has a DVI output the computer can detect what a monitor's max resolution is..... but does the same apply to just using a RGB cable??

I recently upgraded my motherboard but it only has one IDE port. I bought a pci ide card that has two ports in it. I placed both my hard drives on one cable one set to master and on the end connector and the other set to slave placed on the middle connector. I plugged that one into the motherboard directly. the second channel has a dvd drive and a cd rom again one slave one master etc. this one is plugged into the pci card in the secondary port. none of my drives will run when they are plugged into the board but will run/open and close whe i detach them from the motherboard. I have tried cable select options etc. and switching ports in various combos... any ideas? am i configuring them wrong? should i be using the primary port and the ide port in the motherboard or the primary & secondary ports in the card without using the motherboard port?

I have a cable internet connection and usually Firefox has no trouble, but as of a few months ago, images have been loading at a very slow speed, to the point where I don't have the patience to wait for them. This happens in shopping sites, such as Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, etc. Also, on photobucket.
Internet explorer isn't experiencing any problems :(

Here it is: We changed a dimmer switch in the house which required turning of the electricity. Now my daughters computer (older HP Pavilion PC) will not turn on at all. Checked all the connections and there is electricity. When I unplug and replug the power cord from the back of the computer I see a quick green light near the power cord. But it goes right out and the front does not turn on. I had that happen before after a power outage and played around with the plug (holding it down for a while, replugging it) and it turned back on. Not this time. The computer is on good condition and clean. Thanks for the help.
