Does anyone know what could be wrong? My laptop is fairly new and the disk drive was working a few days ago. I have windows vista. Today I went to put in my Sims game cd and it won't read it. Then I put in one of my dvd's and it won't read that either...the drive runs for like a second and then it stops running. I'm getting pretty frustrated! Help please, thanks!

The lens may be dirty. There is cleaner in the market. It is a CD with some tiny brushes. You simply put it in your drive and let it run for a few minutes.

Did something bad happen within the past few days? A power outage that affected your laptop, a registry error.. anything like that?

Try a system restore. Boot your laptop up in Safe Mode, (pressing F8 at startup), select Safe Mode. Once booted up, click Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Select a date on the calendar in bold where you know for a fact it was working fine. Afterwards, be sure to log back in into safe mode to see if it worked.

If this does not help, let me know.

you need to install some drivers compatible with your drive. try reading your disk on some other computer. if the computer won't read the disks, it migth be damaged.
