Computers & Internet - 14 November 2007

Yesterday I turned on my computer, brand new as of 3 weeks ago and It would not boot up. It gets to the stage where the windows loading bar appears and then the screen goes black and puts itself on standby. The computer remains on, doing nothing. It works on safe mode, I have tried system restore and Virus scanning. I used AVG and Reading error, Boot sector of disk comes up. But the program does in no way act to solve it. Only after I hit reset, after it has shut itself off (well seemingly the screen goes black) does it give me the option to swap to save mode, today it even asked me which OS I wanted to use, there is only Vista on here. This could well be a virus, as my limited knowledge of computers causes me to assume. I also tried CCleaner and ad-aware. No luck with anything. This problem has caused me much distress as I have no funds to buy other programs or the help I need to fix my computer.

My computer is a Dell Dimension DXP061 with Vista..my room-mate downloaded a game that crashed part-way and Zango advertisement popped up all over the place and now I have 8 of these Zango registry keys... If i leave it on for more than 3 hours it will hibernate and often wont wake up and a "NO SIGNAL" messgae appears on screen.

The power is still on on the base unit but no screen activity.

What is going on!?

OK- so I have a few questions. But, here's some info that you may need to know.

(1) I want to make sure that all my pics/important documents/ etc are saved in case somehting should happen to my computer.

(2) My CD/dvd drive isn't working- So, I can't back up to a CD

(3) I have a USB card reader/writer

*** QUESTIONS ***

(1) Can I back up everything on my computer & is it recommended? Or, should I just back up pics & important documents?

(2) Is "backing up" the same thing as saving to a disk?

(3) Can i save anything (esp. pics) to my USB card? And, if so- how do I do it?

I woke up one morning (i left my computer on all night on accident)...and my computer had been restored to its original factory settings! I have all of my information, just not on the desktop and i have to do a search for it. when ever i re-start my computer, it always says that it is unable to save anything because i have not created a permanent desktop setting! help! what do i do?!?!?!

I have a computer at home and my email address.

Some people have said they received emails from me but I haven't sent them!!!

One of my friends showed me a copy of an email with my address and a time on it - and I was actually 50 miles away at that time!!

How can this be done??
