I am trying to buy a router for my house because i want to use my laptop around the house with my comcast internet service. i heard 802.11 g was the best. is that true?

The 802.11g is the fastest protocol currently on the market. It gives good range (about 150 feet) and has multiple channels available to avoid conflicts such there be another wireless router nearby.

All the major brands are the same. So if you find one of them on sale, pick it.

i agree that link is awful but you can really get any router for your house because most routers are configured to provide optimal service within the range of an average size house now if you wanna buy some rabbit ears and help boost that singnal well thats always a good idea so you can use your laptop outside or things of that nature, be sure to to have somkind of security on it cause your neighbors might try and jack you...lol

Get a Linksys WRT54G. $50. Easy to use and configure. Never had a problem with mine. Can receive signal through 3 floor home.
There is "N" version available, for longer distance and speed, but your adapter must also be "N" capable.

D-Link and Netgear, Linksys is awful.
