As a computer tech and repairman, I would not recommend Norton for anything period, suite, anitivirus, nothing. Norton is a resource hog and it will weigh your system down and in a lot of cases will not catch the baddies that even the free antiviruses catch. Trust me! . My suggestion to you if you want top notch protection and want it for free is get a great leak-proof firewall, Comodo. Get a great virus scanner, which is Antivir classic also free. And get the best Spyware cleaner on the market Spyware Doctor Starter Edition which is also free. This will cover all your bases and you will be secure as any paid for solution; trust me. I have had more problems with Norton than any other antivirus product bar none. If you feel the need to pay for an antivirus try out Nod32 which is really good, but its protection will only be on par with the free solutions I have posed. Here is proof of my claims:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft...
If you read through the post, Symantec which is Norton scored less than AVG which people claim suck, Avast which people claim suck both free and Antivir which no one really questions. Take a chance, if you don't like it install something else.

Well.. I know that AVG has an Antivirus program that's for free. However, I'm not 100% for sure on the site.
However, if you check out http://majorgeeks.com You should be able to find some utils that you can use free of charge.

AVG is always a popular choice..
But I gotta be honest with you, it will not hold its own if you receive a bad trojan or a worm. The best antivirus out there right now is Norton Antivirus 2007 if you ask me, it has a library thousands long of things to look for.

Lucky you !
There is one really effective FREE anti-virus program from England that is used by most of the PC users in that country (and recently here in America)
Naturally, almost nothing has been reported about AVIRA because they do not advertise in American magazines and if you don't advertise in American magazines you DON'T EXIST, Rght?
Just log on to :
www.avira.com/en/products/personal.html
Scroll down the personal one and download on the hyperlink
This is the one I use in preference to Norton or McAfee or any of the others that are popular in the U.S.
Others on this forum will advise you to use AVG or AVAST.
Both are good but AVIRA got the highest rating by researchers. Please notice the techician's answer above who also recomends AVIRA.
Good luck in your studies and with your PC.

This computer tech would not allow Norton or McAfee on any computer that I own or work on. Both are resource hogs and do not work as well as most of the free anti virus software that is available today. I use AVG free and have been using it for many years. No problems so far, it works great.
For anti spyware I have always used Spybot and Adaware. Both of these also work just fine.
Here's a list of sites where you can download this software. All are free.
All of the following are free.

AVG, Avast, PC Tools Antivirus, and A-Squared Free are all excellent antivirus programs and all are free. You may as well get free antispyware too........
Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, Advanced Spyware Remover, and Xoftspy are all good and free as well.

The best one I've ever used, and I've had it now for 5 years, is Avast 4Home. It's free, it updates automatically, protects your computer and email.
