I am trying to connect my laptop to my sister's wireless network (linksys) and it is asking for a network security key. Someone else set up the network and neither my sister nor my brother-in-law know what the password is. I tried to access the ip address (192.168.1.1) but it is asking for a logon name and password- again- don't have one. any help is appreciated. thanks

I need a driver download for this. ive already tried multiple ones but they all linked to microsoft update. I couldnt find it on there so now i need either a tutorial on how to get it, or a direct download.

Hi everyone, Hope I can get some help here.
I've been having this problem for about 2-3 months now. Virgin broadband 2meg connection. Here's the story so far. I get up in the morning, startup pc, no internet connection. In network connections it say's "connected" but still no internet, and using run/cmd to ping www.bbc.co.uk etc. Produces nothing Click repair, works 2 out of 20 times. Disable connection then re-enable then click repair works 2 out of 20 times. Rebooting pc & modem does not help. I’ve updated & ran AVG, Spybot, Adaware and other system tools and all A1.
So, boot into safe mode internet is ok and all works fine. I then reboot into normal mode (without doing anything else i.e. repair etc.) internet still works, it will work all day, can reboot and still ok, even if firewall is enabled. Wake up in morning and have to go through the same sorry kafuffle lol. Virgin said it was xp firewall. (Don’t think so as I’ve never had problems with the firewall until now, and had the firewall disabled even as I was speaking to them) so they sent out an engineer who said everything was fine with their end, but fitted a new modem anyway. I've fitted new d-link pci network card, full format of hard drive, fresh install of XP and Virgin's broadband setup... still the same. Please help before I resort to attacking nice people exiting Virginmedia office buildings, haha. Have a lovely Sunday. Kind regards Charlie.

I have a "main" computer that I store my music files on. These are protected WMA files I purchase from Napster. I have a few other laptops that, along with the main computer, are networked via a Linksys wireless router.

While I can see the files on all the other PCs, I can't get Windows Media player to play the protected WMAs from any machine but the one I downloaded them on to. I know it has something to do with the DRM stuff, but it seems like there should be a way for me to play songs I legally purchased from any machine on my home network.

So...what am I missing? All machines are running Windows XP Pro, and all are in the same workgroup. I've tried moving stuff to the Shared Folders, but that didn't work (unless I did it wrong). Help!

Recently i asked my uncle to give me an SD card for my mp4 player when he will go back to California. Unfortunately, i was glad that he bought me a Kingston 1Gb SD card which would give me extra memory for my mp4 player, but my excitement turned into a complete disappointment and frustration since when i tried to fit the SD card ,it won't fit into the device. There i realized that there's a watermark in the device's SD slot indicating that it requires a Mini SD...now i don't know what to do with the SD card coz it is useless now for mp4. I dont want to tell my uncle about it coz im sure he'd be disappointed for giving him the wrong info and he would feel that his efforts was in vain and he can't go have a replacement since he would have to travel for another 40 hours to go back to California. But now i'm anxious about it coz i don't want to just let the SD card go to waste. Now, i am thinking of buying a new mobile phone and hoping that there's a model that will suit my SD card.

I have a compaq notebook and I was wondering if I install a fresh copy of windows xp professional will I still be able to install software like quickplay that originally came with my pc or if a message will pop up saying that I need a hp pc to install this? I have Windows xp, when I clicked on an item from my desk top I used to get a page that fills the screen, that is what I want. Now the screen has to be maximised every time, I can't keep it in memory. I don't remember changing it. Please help. jean

Is 4gb of ram too much in a laptop ?

I am going to upgrade soon with a 4gb option (for future proofing -to a degree).
I used to think 1gb would be too much ...up until a few years back.
I'm just not sure I'd use the 4gb to its full potental yet.

As I create word documents, I have not always put them into folders when I hit save. Now I want to go back and move every saved document I've typed into a folder to organize them. What is the quickest and easiest way to do this? Do I have to do it one at a time, or can I go somewhere, somehow and move all of the "cooking" ones to the cooking folder at once. It won't turn on. Only when I leave my finger on the on button, if I let go it turns off. It's been like this for like 3 days. Yesterday and the day before it wouldn't turn on, I kept pressing the on button and it eventually stayed on without my finger. Also during those two days it shut off while I was using the internet. But today it just won't stay on, so for the time being I put tape on the on button. Does anyone know what's wrong? Can it be fixed or should I just get a new one?
