Go to the following link, http://www.crucial.com/uk they can do an on line check which will determine which ram your motherboard supports. They will recommend the optimum amount. You can order on line and although they are not the cheapest it is worth paying for good ram. They guarantee compatibility with your motherboard and give an excellent warranty. They also give fitting instructions. I have used them many times and always been satisfied. Hope this helps.

256 MB is not very much to begin with. You really should upgrade your memory. (RAM - Random Access Memory).
In the mean time un-install any program you don't use, that use memory. Often they run in the background, and many of these can be seen as little icons in the bottom right hand side of your toolbar.
But really, RAM is cheap and very easy to upgrade. Talk to a friend who knows about compturs, he can probably do it for you.

1 buy more ram. 2 look in lower right corner of you computer screen. (system tray). close a bunch of those processes running there that you don't need. alternate method to #2 press ctrl + alt + delete. then tell it to start task manager. look for names of processes you don't need running and click them and say end task. CAUTION this method requires that you be very familiar with what each of the processes are. otherwise you may shut down a process needed to run windows and the system becomes unstable. this means it will either shut the puter down or perhaps even corrupt your windows operating system truth be told though: windows 7 requires at least 1 gig of ram to run correctly. so your computer , at 256 meg, does not have enough ram to run 7. so it will NEVER run fast. come to think of it, i'm not even sure how you get it to run with only 256 meg of ram at all.

Physical memory is also known as RAM. To increase it, just install more. If you are running XP you should have a minimum of 512 megs, one gig would be much better.

Assuming you're running windows XP, right-click "My Computer", choose "Properties", click on "Advanced" tab, under "Performance", click the "Settings" button. From there, choose the "Advanced" tab. After this, click on the "Change" button in the virtual memory area (bottom of box), and increase this. Though the best solution would be to buy more RAM.

You need to buy more memory cards (RAM) for your computer. If you are not sure about your RAM card type, consult a technician. Seriously, 256mb is very little. Get yourself at least 512mb of RAM

256 MB is really small. Find out what sort of memory your computer uses and by 512 MB or 1GB and install it.
