Essays - Spreadsheets - etc... I'm wondering whether 2004 is worth it? I have one of the new Mac Notebooks - so there haven't been any problems yet.

It's not a hardware issue, as the tinge goes away when I use the monitor with my xbox 360, or when I run a computer game. It's a little unnerving, though as it happened so suddenly and without warning. I didn't change the settings, either on the computer or monitor. Please help. It hurts my eyes.

I need a laptop with a built-in serial port. I will be working in DOS, so PCMCIA serial cards and USB serial converters are out of the question - the port needs to be recognizable in the BIOS. I know most new laptops don't come with serial ports, but I'd like something newer for reliability's sake. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I need a laptop for college, one that is reliable. I want something really light, as inexpensive as possible, with the best type of processor, amt of hard drive, etc.
But the most important part is that the computer is light (around 4lbs).

I'm looking for a new laptop for school and I'm pretty much leaning towards an HP right now, possibly a dell. I need some expertise here--I want something that has long battery life, is fairly light, and of course, sleek-looking. I don't want one of the humongo widescreens or anything, just something simple and easy to carry around.

My laptop crapped out and I had an older one available so I swapped the HD (the old one just needed an HD and the HDs are compatible) I tried to boot it but it only has a blinking cursor. It is visible in the bios, etc. And I've used Knoppix to access the files so the HD is still okay.
I did not format the HD but I did reinstall Windows. The blinking cursor still appears. Any thoughts? Thanks.
