I need a laptop with a built-in serial port. I will be working in DOS, so PCMCIA serial cards and USB serial converters are out of the question - the port needs to be recognizable in the BIOS. I know most new laptops don't come with serial ports, but I'd like something newer for reliability's sake. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you're going to br working in DOS, might be simpler to try to find a 2nd hand laptop that does have a Serial port.

The Acer Aspire 13xx has a built-in serial port.

Some high end Dell laptops actually still have ONE serial port...buy em quick...I doubt they will be there for long.
