Essays - Spreadsheets - etc... I'm wondering whether 2004 is worth it? I have one of the new Mac Notebooks - so there haven't been any problems yet.

Well it depends. If you just want a word processor and "power point" app, I would get iWorks from Apple. It's only $69 and can looks much better than powerpoint and word. It also can read and write Office documents. If you need a spreadsheet, well iWorks doesn't have that yet. The new one is suppose to and might come out on the 7th.

Besides iWorks, there is also NeoOffice, which is OpenOffice for the mac. It's free and easy to use, and don't worry it's a full professional app, not some opensource linux executable...

If you really really want Sluggish Office, Office 08 is coming in january and I would use NeoOffice until it comes out.

Go with Office 2004. It is the industry standard and you will be able to share files with Windows Office users with any problems. Go to the website and download any updates regularly. The buzz is that Microsoft is going to update Office for Mac next year. Til then Office 2004 is all we have.
