I am trying to set up a static IP address and I have a Smark Link 56K High Speed Modem. I realize this is almost impossible to set up a static IP address or port forward, through the NAT router/modem, I'm positive it's a modem as the default gateway and IP address are always the same. However, everyone always tells me to program the router because I don't have one, I was wondering if I was to buy a router tomorrow, would what I'm trying to do work? For one thing, I'm connected through my work so I have no control over the connection. That's why I'm wondering compatability?? Also I have a Windows XP home edition. would that be a factor, if you think purchasing a router would help, could you give me info on the best kind for my situation? How would I program it if it did work?? any possible info you can give me would greatly help. Thanks.
