Sure. Buy the product (Norton Antivirus) in a store or online. Then uninstall your trial version and then install the purchased one. (I only say that because I don't know if the retail version can be installed on top of the trial version.
You're right to be concerned. Symantec *may* have a plan for infinite renewals when they have your cc number.

Some credit cards offer a "card generator". Visa does, for example. You give, say, Discover(discovercard.com) your card number and they generate another "account" that's only active for the time you specify and only contains the money you specify. I also believe you can state who can access it. Go to your card's website and look for one, or ask their customer service about it.

I believe the AVG answer is a good one, plus Spybot. I don't have too much faith in Norton's crap,(whoops, did I just call their crap, crap?)
