Will the computer get damaged if the hd or motherboard malfunction?

The motherboard pretty much is your computer. If the motherboard malfuntions it shouldn't cause any damage to the other hardware, except for it could damage the CPU.

If the hard drive malfunctions you may loose all of your data...but it will not damange anything .

Hi. At that point I would say it already HAS been damaged. But unless something else occurred then no.
