i just received a security threat alert : MS07-016
i went directly to Window's update site, but after scanning my PC the message came back from them saying there were no new updates for my computer. So what is this threat about and what do i do? ( i have all the virus,etc. protection necessities,am fire-walled, set up for automatic updates, etc. So i don't understand how this happened)

I am in dire need of a new mother board, but only one, I need to replace the one in my computer, so I know since I'm getting a new MB might as well add some RAM, and a faster chip (is the Pentium 4 2.4 GHz hyper threaded still decent, i have it running now, but i think I want dual CPU) Anyway, what is a good MB that I can get that will hold 4 gigs of ram, and I believe has 6 slots for my add-ons if I am correct. Please give me ideas, newegg and tigerdirect are just giving me too many options and I haven't upgraded in years...

I was wondering if i get a slave drive a second one how does that work.? I hook it up to the second part of ribbon and proper jumper placement but i was wondering how does it work then? I mean when you boot to your master drive do you use the slave through that? i mean boot to first drive and use second drive through that OS?

When do the Bios parameters for the new processor have to be entered? Do they have to be input with the old processor, saving them, turning off the the system and then switching in the new processor? My problem is that the old Cpu is defective (2 broken pins). At present with the new Cpu plugged in, there is no Post and I can't enter Bios setup mode.

I have a work computer and I'm getting a new job so I took all the personal files off of it, and deleted the recycling bin. I've been using a memory stick, but somehow my mom managed to delete all the files on it while trying to copy and past a file. Now EVERYTHING is gone and I'm FREAKING out... is it gone forever? Lately, I've been having problems with my internet or it could just be something within my laptop. I'm not sure.
Anyways, each time I click on firefox, the page, of course, pops out. The problem I'm having is that sometimes I can't see anything. The page is there but I can't see Yahoo, it's just a blank screen. I've tried going into other sites and it's the same thing. The thing says it is done downloading the page too. In yet, there's nothing =/
At times, like right now, the whole thing works fine but then I just click on a link or go somewhere and it happens again, the blank screen. Not even refreshing works. Any idea what may be wrong with my computer?

I have a very controlling and distrustful husband who is very computer savy and I know nothing. Is it possible for him to spy on what I am doing on the internet if there is no spyware on my machine? I have spyware detector and my computer is password protected. What I mean is, since we're both on the same wireless network, can he see what is on my computer screen when he's here or record it some way when he's not? It must be possible, otherwise why would people have firewalls? I'm not doing anything wrong, I just don't like the fact that he does this to me. He also tapped our phones--no kidding--and recorded all my telephone conversations. Fortunately, I found that one by accident.

I'll run the defrag, and it will finish and say that there were no files that couldn't be defragmented, but the total volume fragmentation is still at 8% and file fragmentation is at 17% (which means that 1.5 GB worth of data on my hard drive is fragmented).

And the weird thing is that i just wiped the hard drive today, and was installing my programs when I noticed that it did that (I was very careful, restarting after ever installation, and defragmenting after every restart).

It isn't an old computer...around 2 years old...but it has such strange problems sometimes (that have dumbfounded numerous tech specialists), and this will be the third time that I have been forced to format the hard drive due to unusual file disappearances and blue screens of death (with no viruses detected).

It is a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop, if that helps. And I have service pack 2, a gig of ram, and a 2.8 Ghz processor. I use it for semi-professional video editing.

so i was thinkin it was just msn but all of a sudden i open a yahoo email and cant read it either...sometimes i can go to printable version and i can at least read them.
so im wondering if there is some sort of settin that i can change on my computer...i have cleared all the cache and history and re installed both programs...msn has been doin it ever since the new live version.

I just installed quicktime player onto my computer. No errors came up during installation and no compatibility errors popped up ethier. I do have user control off though.

What happens is I will try to play any .mov file extension, quicktime opens it and plays about 5 to 25 seconds of the video, and then a small windows pops up saying

"Buffer overrun detected!

Program: C:\program files\quicktime\quicktimeplayer.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated"

I am on a HP Pvailion DV9000 laptop, running on Windows Vista Home Premium. 32-bit operating system.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!
