Heres my situation. I have this very sweet, but old laptop. It has pentium 233mhz, 64ram, 3.2gb. I want to get it going with an os so I can use it for internet and word processsing for school. I don't need any fancy programs on it or anything. I just need Wifi Pcmcia support, and it has a infered port which would be nice if it worked. Im not experienced with linux but I am willing to (try and) learn.

heres what I'm looking for:
1. Which one boots faster (if there is a certain type of linux which boots very quick, which one is it, and what does it compromise)
2. Which one will run faster on my computer
3. Which one will optimized the battery life better
4. with linux, will I be able to send files back and forth with my Windows computers?
5. Will I be able to have the following on linux: skype? AIM? a free webediter which uploades directly to FTP site (like dreamweaver), and where can i download programs for linux
6. Will I be able to use a pcmcia wifi card with linux?

my computer is all messed up, it is going MUCH slower than normal does. almost every time i go to a new page it says....
"shockwave flash - - the plug-in has performed an illegal operation. you are strongly advised to restart firefox."
alot of times it will close the page and say that it has encountered a problem or something.
if i watch a video it will freeze up the page and i have to close it. it also closes aim....

so ive asked for help and ive defragged my comp, ive tried to do some virus scan thing that didnt work, ive tried to update my flash even though i dont know what that means.... i called the dell support number only to find out my computer wasnt under warenty anymore and it would cost like $100 to fix it and it sounded like it might not even work....if you can actually help me please let me know!!!! im getting frustrated!!

my motherboard is a -NEC INT. SiS651 1.x - which is AGP x4. could someone tell me what the best Grafix card would be for it?

I bought a computer from a guy that refurbishes them. It came with windows 2000 installed BUT it did not include driver. I thought I could just do a system restore like with my pc that runs XP but I discovered 2000 does not HAVE a system restore option. I have nothing important on it and it would be just fine to format the whole thing. And after formatting can I use my installation driver from my 'other' pc that has the XP version on the newly formatted pc?

I have a 2wire modem the 1701 model and when i hook it up to my computer the power light turns green the lan light turns green but the broadband link light stays orange which pretty much means that theres is no connection does anyone know anyway to fix it so i can connect to the internet. Im on another computer right now so this is how i can connect to the internet.

I'm trying a bit hard to learn the Linux OS, anyway I'm just starting to learn the bash shell commands, and moving on. I actually got NDISwrapper to work on my system (hehe, it took a while, BUT I did get it). Anyway I just wanted to know, since I am planning to switching to Linux as my main OS, or even my only.
