Visit www.writely.com -- it's just like Word but it's online so it'll store your stuff. You can even invite others to help edit or read your stuff. And of course you can print too.

Use Open Office. It's free (though they do accept contributions), and the Writer program can save (and read) documents in Word format.

i have never been lucky to find a free one so I keep downloading micro. offices' free trial under a different profile and email address. also if you have an expired office program make sure and remove it from programs before doing the trial.
